Dead or Alive 4 First Impressions

It crashes a lot - and it's about as much fun as being kicked repeatedly in the kidneys until they explode in a shower of gore and abject disappointment.

It doesn't even look that much better than the Xbox versions of the series. There's some nice fine detail going on on some of the characters, but by and large it looks like they took the Xbox character models and added detail to some small areas. The same goes for the stages - lots of them are recycled with minimal changes from the Xbox games.

I'm a hopeless DoA/Ninja Gaiden fanboy, so I still hold out hope that it'll improve as I play it more, but it feels like Team Ninja have dropped the ball on this one. It's crushingly disappointing so far.

Shame they used the voice of Tony the Tiger in the adverts :)

Out of interest, what combination of game and system were you playing?

I played it for a couple of hours on a friends Pal retail box with a US copy and there were no problems, nor did he mention any. Also, a lot of users on RLLMUK have the game and haven't mentioned any problems other then a case of deleted saves (which is a known bug and can be avoided)

I'm not a "hardcore" beat em up fan by any means, although it's obvious that there are no major changes to the gameplay - but then, it's silly to assume there would be. Actually the only reason i can see for your dissapointment is exactly that. For all of tecmo's mouthing off, it does nothing new.

personally, i'm going to pick it up friday, but normally I wouldn't bother. However the use of achievemtnts gives me a proper reason to play it repeatedly (instead of 10mins and its finished), and it's only costing me £10 :)
